Picked up this Pro Max 22-44 drum sander today from Craigslist ... $350. It needs a feed belt, but other than that it looks clean and functional. Came with a big box of sandpaper too. Anybody have a good source for the feed belt? I like buying from and selling to fellow woodworkers ... it's a good excuse to scope somebody else's shop, swap some information, and check out the stuff they've built.

That dang well could be a HECK of a gloat! I got a feed belt off Ebay - not from anyone in particular, just searched and went for the best price with the most positive feedback.. I think yer score beats out my $400 Performax 16-32. So ... You suck!

I bought a belt for mine a while back. It's really nothing more than a lagre sanding belt.
Whan I get home I will look for my source.
$350 for that machine is a steal.

NICE!!! Bigger'n MY wide sander, and cheaper, too! Definitely qualifies for a real live gloat.

Southern Tool has the conveyor belt for $65 ... best price I've seen so far.
Seeing how chewed up the old one was kind of has me worried ... how easy is it to ruin these things?

Well the good news is they move REAL slow ... The bad news is, they move so slow that it takes FOREVER to tell if there's a problem. I chewed the one that came with mine up till I figured out HOW to adjust the tracking - i don't think any words can describe the dance well enough to nail it first time ... it takes a good deal of fiddlin' and a LIGHT touch on that wrench and LOTS of patience. Do it when you're 100% fresh and got no pressing stuff waitin' on ya ... it took me about 2 hours to get the one that came with it so it would stop running itself into the works and grinding it all up. But, after I got it, it wasn't chewed up enough for me to figure i needed to change over to the new one, yet. Just about 3/4" on one side, really. When it DOES come time to change it, I'll deliberately knock this chewed one outta whack and get IT working right to refresh my memory, if at all possible.

I just ordered two 23" x 62" 120 grit belts from Industrial Abrasives ... I'll let you know how they work out. I hope the dimensions are right, because the price was sure as 7734 right!

Industrial Abrasives for the win! I had to buy two belts, but I got them with tax (they're in PA) and delivery for a little over $50 ... compared to $99 for one belt some other places. The glue for the custom belts takes three days to cure according to the sticker on the box, so they're more or less ready to use by the time they arrive.
As I expected, the tracking of the conveyor is a bit touchy, but I took the advice above ... at any rate, it moves slowly enough that if you pay attention, you can keep it adjusted.
I'm pleased with the sander so far ... it's clearly going to take some trial and error, but I'm off to a good start. I haven't run anything too wide though it yet ... that will be the real test of accuracy. The shroud is rather chewed up and just kind of sits there, occasionally finding its way onto the sanding drum. Not sure how it's supposed to sit, but I know that's wrong. Because it only has a 2.5" dust port, I'm thinking about fabricating a new one out of sheet metal or maybe cutting up some PVC pipe.
Dust collection is acceptable with 2.5" port and the Fein vac (with a bag) ... when I remembered to turn it on! But I think real DC will be more effective if I can rig up a 4" port.
Almost forgot to mention the footprint ... this thing is a lot bigger than I expected!

Good to hear, Jim! Glad you're having success The real lesson for me was how deep a cut to take on a given pass. Cherry burns just lookin' at it so if you can keep cherry clean, you've developed a pretty good touch with it I say go for it on the shroud. Mine has a 4" port and it's a 16" wide drum. It does well but I don't think a "stock" dust collector could keep up with it quite as well.
