Scored a good find on the Boston Craigslist. A guy was selling his Jet Mortising Machine for a paltry $50. I called, I drove, I got. It came with a 1/4, 3/8 and 1/2 bit/chisel . . . all used a little . . . and some parts missing as seen in the photo. It is presently attached to a piece of precision firewood and a 4" cross slide vise. I plan to save the vise and replace the other missing parts (base, hold down, etc . . . altogether about $50 worth) including the proper chuck key and the alternate chisel holder (3/4"). So I'll be in around $100 which is quite tolerable for a nice machine! Add to that . . . way back when Woodworker's Warehouse was going out of business . . . I bought a set of 4 TiN plated chisels/bits (those above plus a 5/16ths) for $7.50 . . .and they just happen to fit. Yes, it's a good day even with the torrential rain up here in Massachusetts!

Nice score, indeed. Congrats.
BTW, if you happen to see pairs of animals going by, you might want to follow them. ;D

I'll have to post another pic once the parts come in and I get it all together. It's got a touch of surface rust to contend with, but nothing major. A little steel wool and wax will take care of it.
The slide vise, though a crappy one, is nice too . . . always wanted one, never needed one, and never wanted to part with the $30-40 for one . . . now I get to try one on the DP. ;D
As to the rain . . . it thankfully stopped last night . . . the nearby river is still over flood level, and is predicted to recede to flood level and below sometime Wednesday . . . being March . . . 12"+ of rain very easily could have been 3-4 feet (or MORE!?!) of snow . . . what a difference 10-15ยบ makes!

darn nice score!
FWIW, the high end mortisers often have cross slide vices on them --- really nice, if you ask me, b/c precision and speed are almost a given.
i have a delta version - basically same as yours but gray ---- and the hold down works but it is not as good as it should be. if the vice works (i noted you said it was a cheapy), could be a good thing...
in any event - NICE SCORE!

Yahoo! Parts came in yesterday! Dopey me, when I ordered the screws, I misunderstood the list and ordered singles instead of the twos and threes I needed . . . oh well, I'm going to have to hit the hardware store for those (shipping will make it too $$$ to get those few parts) which at the prices I paid, I prolly shoulda anyhow! Should still be under $100 complete though. ;D Can't wait to drill some square holes!
