....well, my first handcrafted pen(s). I didn't make 'em. A while back, I sent Zac and Doug B some of my scraps that would have ended up in the fire pit, and these are what I got in return. From Zac (red elm) From Doug (spalted sycamore) From Doug (quilted maple, and it really is "rescued firewood") Thanks guys. These are my first pens that have a story behind 'em. I'll show these to my 15yo grandson, just to prove that all you guys/gals really do exist. (and how 'bout that photography?)

Way cool. Isn't it amazing when you send off scrap and one day you go to the mailbox and there is a beautiful piece of art in there made from it. I love the camaraderie here and really enjoy the giving and receiving of wood and whatever else is needed/wanted.

all three are great pens, I really like the spalted one the best. very nice gestures all the way around from sending the wood and sending back something made from that wood. That is why I like this forum so much. Everyone on here is very nice and considerate of others.
when I first opened this thread I thought you have converted to the dark side.

when I first opened this thread I thought you have converted to the dark side. What Dave calls pens, I call BAIT! But it was a very nice gesture. The folks on this forum are really super.

I about pooped my pants (yes I'm sick, but not THAT kind of sick!) when I saw the thread too - I'm like "holy crap, Dave has joined the coven!" This forum is a great place.... you know - the friendships that this place harbors is really something. I love being able send someone something I know they will really appreciate, just as much as I love receiving something from them... it's awesome that I can get different pieces of wood sent to me from different parts of the country - stuff I don't even have access too here. Awesome guys here - and that doesn't even touch on the wonderful knowledge each shares. I like the theme on our banner "Where our combine knowledge, becomes our greatest tool" it's so true! Zac

OK guys, he's got the bait...time to set the hook! ;D I get 20% off coupons for Harbor Freight all the time and they have the 34706 lathe on sale every once in a while...seems like a logical thing to do to me
