Several gripes - first of all....no wonder yall hate turning pencils, the bastard things suck! The cheap slimlines just plain suck! No matter what you do, that damn pencil mechanism is going to catch somewhere....they make the opening in the cap so damn tight that when you try and put the eraser "cap" on the eraser - it's so tight against the clip/cap ring that it stops the clicker from working.
No more - I'm not making any more pencils out of those POS kits - maybe a nicer kit and people will pay for every penny of the pricier kits.
I agreed for two pen/pencils sets for a lady - I'm so pissed I'm just going to charge her for the pens and give her the POS pencils and see if she is ok with it. They work - but they are so finicky that the clicker is bound to stop working - with the cap off, it works better, cap on - not so good.
Second - I tried my luck at a Cigar pen today - with a corn cob blank.
The corn cob blank went ok - the cigar pen didn't work for chit.
First of all - the bushing didn't fit on the mandrel I had....too tight - then I couldn't get them off - so I had to beat the chit outta the mandrel with a ball pein hammer and a punch just to get the bushing off - ruined that mandrel...which is ok because it was kinda beat up anyways, I had been saving my spare for when the new mandrel savers were back in stock - I had to use it early...hopefully I can stop from bending this one.
Then I think I f-ed up the bushings because they fit so tightly on the cigar tubes that I think it flared the nib end.... When I assembled the pen it was a very very loose fit - so I dabbed a bit of CA glue to help hold it....at this point it has turned into a complete trial, I keep the pen kinda thing - Well... so I'm putting the rest of the pen together and now.... after putting in the spring, ink stick, and then screwing on the transmission.... the damn thing won't work. The transmission turns just find - it gets a "catch" someone in the pen (it's NOT the transmission, it's in the lower barrel) and you have to "force" twist it and it will pop the ink stick out of the nib, ready to write...well - when you twist the transmission the other way to close it - it won't go back in. I didn't really trim the barrel down hardly nothing, just enough with the barrel trimmer to make it square. I have no idea what went wrong - I'm pretty pissed though.... 5.35 for the blank, 3.95 for the pen kit.
So.... now I think I need to get a new set of cigar bushings before I can try another.
Needless to say - I'm not a happy camper.
