Well, if your tired of seeing pens....ooops! Here's a pen I turned the other day, but didn't get around to taking a photo. Seems after I sold those four pens, there is a big 'hole' in my stash! Eye-candy..... 30-06 Cartridge Twist Pen w/Maple Crotch 5 coats CA/BLO and buffed with EEE and then paste wax. Was going to try the "Les in Red Deer' method on this one, but it was unseasonably cool when I got ready to finish it. Not wanting to get "The-one-who-must-be-obeyed" ruffled with the house smelling like Poly, I went ahead and finished it with the CA/BLO method. After wrapping a paper-towel around the turned, sanded blank... I got to re-do the sanding and try again!! As always, your critique is very important to me and my learning process! Thanks for looking!!!! Scott (dang pen turners flooding the section again) B

From what I can see in the photo your fit and finish look great on the cap but can't see the rest of the pen that well. IMHO you need to get rid of the business card. It draws attention a way from the subject pen like most props do. Center your pen diagonally in the photo allowing a closer shot so the whole be can be seen. Have you considered using an actual bullet to get a more realistic look of a bullet pen? Do you use any finish on the brass casing to prevent tarnishing or do you let them go "Army"? What software do you use the put text on your photos? Les

Thanks for the info...certainly don't need any distractions.
Picasa3....one of those freeware programs will do the text.
Should the pen be stood up? Should it be laying on something other then a blue tack cloth?
Scott (I like your honesty) B

Thanks for keeping the pens coming Scott. I really like that Maple crotch wood. When are you going to try some antler? Want me to send you some of yours back to you I've still got some left that would work well. I see you are making your own bullet kits now instead of using the PSI ones. What are your feelings about the difference between the 2 different methods? I had problems with using real bullet components, but it's been a while since I tried that method. I don't solder, and I did not trust just gluing in the transmission.

Actually these kits came from WoodnWhimsies(Pro-Line Kit)
I'm going back to the click type from PSI....well, Woodturningz(same pen kit, less money, and faster shipping).
Thanks for the offer on antler, but I can get more from Allan(hunting buddy) if I need it. Just haven't wanted to yet.... That, and my skills are still being tested everytime I turn the lathe on, perhaps when I feel a little more comfortable.
Scott (CA'd the cone though) B
