Hello
I am a 28 years old part carpenter part construction engineer from Finland......Yep exactly that Finland halfways around the planet. Where ice bears allegedly roam the streets....chased by Finns armed with a hunting knife and an empty vodka bottle ;D
I belong to the Swedish minority living on the coast of Finland since prehistoric times so my native language is Swedish. This is the reason for my sometimes faulty English.
I have worked wood as a hobby since childhood. My father is handyman for his own needs so I learned a lot from him. I have repaired wooden boats and shifted out logs in fully scribed loghouses and made some joinery and a few pieces of furniture and a few tools. The hobby part of my woodworking is mostly with hand tools.

Heippa! It's sure good to see you here, Torlief! Ah, Finland. Helsinki is sometimes referred to as a "sister city" to Burlington, Vermont.

Hello TW,welcome aboard.
I'll start you right out with a question to annswer,,,,what does shifted out logs mean?Let me guess ,replacing logs of rotted or damaged condition in an established scribed log home.

Thanks for the warm welcome.
That old lathe is in my line up of things waiting to be done. It is getting closer though. This summer I have fixed up the front loader and extended an outbuilding and now I am putting the finishing touches on a cirkular saw for cutting firewood. Built entirely from scratch and from scrap.
I have never built any new log buildings but I sometimes work with old ones. I have taken down old buildings and moved them and put them back together replacing all damaged logs as I went. I have replaced rotten logs in standing buildings as well. All work have been traditional style though I use the chainsaw to speed things up.
I try to post a picture of an old smithy..... Where did the picture go?

Once Clicked, we can see it... better than nothing! ;D Looks like a shop or something specifically for "short people". ;D ;D Interesting!

Yes TW, I would like to hear more about the building in that picture too! I can see your repairs, but the structure looks short and it does not look like there can be any basement since it is built on SOLID ROCK There are some instructions somewhere for posting pics but here it is in nutshell: 1. click the "Browse" button on the line that says Upload an Image: 2. Find your picture on your computer and select it by double clicking on it 3. On that same line click the button "Host It" 4. Magic happens, and a box comes up with the address of your hosted picture (you probably got this far all on your own, and now all you have to do is: 5. Copy that magically generated picture address (don't paste it anywhere just yet) 6. On the line Add Tags: on the second row, fourth from the left is a "picture" icon - click on that icon 7. That will put the following tags in your message [ img][/ img] (except I added an additional blank to each tag so they will show up here) 8. Finally, position your cursor between the tags and paste your picture address in there. Now, if you want to modify your earlier post and make the picture show up, I believe you could just add the [ img]your picture address goes here[/ img] tags your post and the picture will appear in your modified post. Hope that helps TW!
