I would have sent a PM, but I'm hoping that an open forum question(s) will benefit others as well....
After reading through your .pdf on finishing, okay I've read it a dozen times to prepare to do a finish like yours-commiting as much as possible to memory so I won't have to run back to the computer. I have the following question(s):
#1: Your profile shows you live in the Red Deer, Alberta. What temperature do you keep your shop? And have you noticed a 'better' temperature to apply your finishing technique? Might as well throw humidity into the equation as well....does it make a difference?
#2: Have you ever thought of doing a video showing this technique? It could be loaded on uTube(or something like it that hosts video)... I know I'd watch it!
#3: On a personnal note.... How long have you been making pens? And what inspired you to try Poly as a finish?
Scott (you have inspired me, that's for sure) B

My shop is in my basement at an average temperature of 20C and the higher the temperature the faster it will dry. The higher the humidity to longer it takes to dry.#2: Have you ever thought of doing a video showing this technique? It could be loaded on uTube(or something like it that hosts video)... I know I'd watch it! I don't have the equipment to do a video.#3: On a personnal note.... How long have you been making pens? And what inspired you to try Poly as a finish? Been make pens now for 3 years. I have experimented with many different finishes and stayed with the MINWAX because I get consistent good results and it is used for hardwood flooring so it is tough stuff.Scott (you have inspired me, that's for sure) B

To bad about the video...
Thanks for the tips, guess my garage at 19*F this morning is probably too cold to get good drying. Will need to check with the 'boss' and see if I can bring the piece in to dry on the desk in the spare room... We keep the house at/around 70*F during the winter, and 76*F during the summer, and the humidity is hard to control. Dry as all get out during the winter, and sticky during the summer. But that's what happens when you live in the southeast!
Going to HomeDepot today to get some 'Fast Drying Poly', all I have is a can of satin that I coat my shootin' sticks with. Need to get out of the house for awhile anyway....going crazy sitting around!
Thanks for the response though!
Scott (it's a good back day) B
