Well lookie there! Power must not have gone out on ya bud!
Cool man, I like it. It's far different than the hackberry I've seen - seems much darker...could be all that tung oil I suppose.
Round 'bouts - how big is it?

For a "weed tree" that Hackberry has sure become a favorite. Nice Bowl.
It spalts real easy. I've got a couple hunks I took from a tree someone had dumped on the old dirt road on our church property. I just stuck them out in the gardens next to the house and let them spalt. They're ready now and if the weather ever warms up again I may get a chance to spin them.

Zac its rather small , 2 1/2 inches tall by 5 1/2 inches wide. When I first started turnin I read somewhere that the small bowls were harder to make. One of these days im goin to make a big bowl Boodrow

Chit - in Illinois we hardly call that snow if you can't measure it on the ground! We call it spring! I can't wait to get involved with the wood turning club I mentioned before, and working on a bowl for the first time. Zac

Zac gotta warn u , bowls aint nothin like stoppers and such. Best thing I ever did was get a damn good 3/8 bowl gouge. I also have a 5/8gouge that looks like a baseball bat , but its a wood hog. Also be sure to wear if nuthin else eye protection when turnin bowls , Ive had 3 come apart on the lathe , not fun Boodrow

Hey that's a really nice bow Boodrow! That Hackberry sure gets some wild grain to it and it looks like it got some spalting too.
I know what you mean about the cold shop. I'm struggling to get mine up to 60 where it is comfortable. It's just hard to enjoy it when it's too cold, and with the cold and cloudy weather it has been tough to keep it warm enough.
It's just been a colder winter this year than usual.

It's just been a colder winter this year than usual. Yes, it has. Boodrow, that's a fine bowl although I thought it was bigger than the dimensions you gave. There wasn't a natty lite can for reference. ;D I still haven't turned any of that Hackberry you brought me and it may be too far gone by now. I'll check it out soon, though when I get that rocking chair outta the shop.

Duster the hackberry is some pretty lite stuff , Ive blown one off the lathe , the piece came screamin by my left ear.I've got a scar on my right arm, nearly two inches long and a 1/2" wide where a hackberry bowl came off of the chuck and grazed my arm on the way across the shop. Luckily it only scraped through about half the layers of skin there. I did manage to find all of the pieces of the bowl, CA glued it back together and finished it up.
