Yesterday, found an add in Craigs list for 4/4 cherry and red oak, rough sawn, for $2/BF. Went and looked it over...average widths-8"-12", lengths-8'-12'. They've been air dried, moisture is between 12%-14%.
Needless to say, Saturday I'll be getting the truck and loading up!

Whoa!! TWO dollars/bf  Cherry is running about $5.75 here, and red oak is around $3. I'd say you did damn good. |

That's a STEAL for cherry, around here it's almost $6 per bf too. That's retail, but even at a mill you'll be paying twice what you are looking at.

NICE! I'd rather work air-dried than kiln-dried, any day of the week. I've gotta' cast about & ferret out another sawmill soon who can sell me the green stuff so I can dry it here.
BE AWARE that the stuff is seriously heavy - especially the oak. Cherry only weighs about half as much as oak does. Move a few hundred bf around & you FEEL it later.

Yeah, last Saturday I picked up just over 80 BF of the red oak for a bar I was asked to build for a friend's man-cave and a friend of mine down the street wanted some for a bookcase.
I'm waiting till next week for the cherry. The cherry I'm interested in is down on the bottom of the darn pile. The bottom stock is in the 12 -14" width range. The guy I'm buying it from said he has another customer that'll take the narrower stuff. I can pick mine up after Wednesday. I think I'll wait for the TS Ida to pass before loading up.
