All I can say is I really like turning this bois D'arc that Cody sent. Turns and polishes very well. The black part was a crack that I glued up. I got a little bit of sawdust in the larger crack on the lip that makes it look a little bit off. I just think it adds character though. I did 3 dips in laquer. Lightly wet sanded with 1200 between 2nd and 3rd dip. Next time I do a bottle stopper with the dipping method I am going to leave it on the mandrel and after the dip I will put on lathe and turn on to sling off excess. I did have a couple of small runs between 2nd/3rd coat. Thanks again Cody!!!!!!

Real sharp - and that crack looks awesome.
Cody was kind enough to send me some of that Bois d'arc too - I've made a pen which came out great, in fact I pulled it out of inventory for my personal use. I've yet to make a BS quite yet.

That is some beautiful wood Mav! And I agree the crack adds character.
I had not thought about dipping then putting the stopper back on the lathe...I am interested in hearing how that turns out for you.

Good looking stopper, Mav. Even in the pics, I can see the chatoyance in the Bois d'Arc. It's a beautiful wood.

You almost can't appreciate it until you turn/polish/finish and then look at in the sun to see the real beauty in it. It is cool wood for sure
