Had some free time on my hands last week, just got around to taking some photo's. As always comments/critiques are welcome! All St. Charles twist pen kits were the "Satin" hardware. Tag on blank said "Redheart" Tag on blank said "Purplrheart" Tag on blank said "Bubinga" I have no idea what these pens are worth, anyone feel like throwing me a approximate value? Scott (got to do something about take blue towel) B

Both pens look really nice. Where'd you get your pen kits from? I like the clip and the cap on these kits. What they're worth??? Whatever someone is willing to sell them for?? Seriously - they're worth what they're worth to you. Standard slimline pens have a very broad range of prices - the fancier you go with things, the more you could charge. What did you use to finish them? Looks good - thanks for sharing! Zac

both pens do look really good. I usually sell slimlines or similar for 20, if they have expensive wood then I will jack up the price a little bit to cover the added expense.

Very nicely done! Fit and finish look great. The plating complements to timbers very well.

Nice job on the pens Scott. They both look well made.
I agree with Mav that pens like those would go for about $20.00, and a little more for special wood. I have probably made a lot of slimline pens, and the vast majority of the ones that were not given away as gifts were sold for $20.00 or 25.00 each.
It was real good experience for me while I was learning, but I'm not real crazy about making $20.00 pens any more. But I need to have some for the shows - some people really want a pen and can only afford something in the $20.00 range.

Thanks for the responses guys! The prices you guys are talking seem high, but that is probably because I'm still so new to this? Kit price: $2.65 Blank: $1.15 Not sure about the misc stuff like paper towels, CA, BLO, sand paper, electricity: $?.?? I'm guessing I've got $5.00 in the pen, plus my time(but I'm not doing this for a living, just trying to purchase more kits/blanks with the cash). I was thinking that they would be worth something like $11.00 - $15.00, depending of the wood used. But if ya'll are getting $20.00, I'm not going to turn it down! Used CA/BLO on all three different types of wood, and buffed a coat of Miniwax. Thought I was going to have 'issues' with the Purpleheart, so I DNA'd it before doing the finish(it felt greasy-but it was probably just me). Yes, the kits came from Woodwhimes. Their shipping was fast, and I received my order quickly. From Monday(when I ordered) to Sat(when I received the package) isn't bad. They shipped me 25 pen kits and a few sets of bushing in a PriortyMail envolope. I'll probably order from them again. Scott (200% markup.... ) B

Nice job, Scott.
DAMHIKT, but wash any wet/dry sandpaper or micro mesh used for sanding that red heart, and toss any that was used that is not washable. Otherwise the sanding dust from that stuff will get into the pores of any light colored wood it is used on and it is a real PITA to get it out.
