I decided that I should have another pencil for the gun show tomorrow, so I made one using Cocobolo and Antler. The guts are from a Pentel pencil which can be switched out to use .5 or .7 or .9 mm lead. The centerband is made from pick guard and Bloodwood. I got to use my beading tool again too

that is pretty slick, your pickguard and bloodwood is a good way to break up the wood from antler. good luck at the gun show. let us know how it goes

Thanks Mav. There are not many people who will appreciate a pencil like this one, but I'm ready if one of them just happens to show up at the gun show

I had several people these past two days ask me about pencils.....it's hard to explain how I think they suck, but - yes, I CAN do a pencil.... pentels are not something I'd like to do yet, or I'd just come out and ask how. You do make some wonderful pencils out of the pentels.... this is no exception. I appreciate all of it...the cocobolo, the pickguard, the bloodwood, and the antler. By it's description alone, may seem like a hodge podge of leftovers, but it is a TRULY nice looking pencil!

Do you have a 'matching' pen to go with it? Selling as a set would probably get it moving faster....just a thought.
I like all the differences in the assembled pen! Makes it more then just a pencil, if you know what I mean....
I remember you speaking(typing) about the beading tool way back when you first got it. Got a question about them though...how do you sharpen it? Would think running it over a grinder would flatten the 'teeth' out, or do you just file new 'teeth' into it?

Thanks for the comments guys.
Zac, there is some demand for pencils, especially from accounting types and some engineering types of customers. I have been trying to find a pencil kit that I really liked, and everyone always told me to use the Pentels. I did not like the looks of the way most guys do Pentel Pencils, so I had to come up with my own design. Plus, my wife absolutely loves pencils, so I really had no choice in the matter ;D
Scott, I do some matching sets, but they don't sell that well except for high school and college graduation presents - and those are by request. I only do slimlines as pen/pencil sets for a number of reasons.
However, these pencils I am making with the Pentel kits are specifically for people who only want a pencil. They are for those few people who really want a good quality pencil. And the best part is that I can easily exchange the components for .5 mm, .7 mm or .9 mm leads. Personally, I like the .9mm lead the best, and I have never seen a commercial kit that used that size lead.
Thanks again guys for the comments.
