Scott (insert something witty here) B sent me some Whitetail deer antlers for me to try out. I have only used Elk or Mule Deer antlers before, so I was anxious to try them out. One is with "bark" and the other is without. They seem pretty similar to Mule deer antler, except that the tines are much straighter on the Whitetail antlers, and thus easier to drill

As always - looks great. Straight antler = good antler!

Looks great Doug! Have you done any with an actual casing and an actual bullet drilled out for a nib? The real one look more authentic than the PSI kits.

I'm just glad someone got some use out of them, and the wife is glad she doesn't have to move them every time she wants something out of the deep-freeze!
Did they smell bad when you drill 'em? They had been sitting around for over four years in the garage with temps ranging from 25*F to over 100*F! Was afraid that they would have been to small in diameter to be used, but if there was a chance to make them work....you'd be able to do it.
Like the one on the right(bark on 'em) the best, but both are outstanding!!!

Scott, they were perfect size for making pens and they do have a smell when drilling, but it is more noticeable when cutting them on the Miter Saw. Good dust control helps a lot. I don't find it too bad of a smell and the wife has not complained so it must not be too bad. They don't smell at all while turning on the lathe.
Thanks again Scott - I appreciate the antlers!
Oh, yeah, I like the one with the bark still on it best too, but they both turned out real nice.

Les Les, I am thinking about trying the actual bullet and casing pens again sometime...I hope you will be around to help me figure out how to get it done once I get a round tuit
