Awhile ago I made this simple, rustic, perhaps somewhat childish lamp. It hangs above Itsuko's dresser and when I awake it it the first thing I see in the morning. I thought I would share it with you folks: And just how long was awhile ago? 51 years. I made this in 7th grade shop, PS#4 Buffalo NY, in 1961. When my father passed in 1997 it was in his effects and I got it back. Larry

Actually, that was only 49 years ago, but who is counting. ;D
That is really quite cool (as opposed to childish) and I really like it.

That's really cool Larry. It's a cool project for a 7th grader and even cooler that your dad held on to it for all those years. You might attach a card on the back telling the story of the lamp for the next generation of your family to own it. Funny thing is, my dad grew up in Buffalo and is about your age, and his name is Larry. I'll have to ask him which school he went to.

That's a great story behind that lamp, Larry. I'm with Stretch in that you should stick it on the back so that whichever relative ends up with it knows where it originated.
Let's see, 7th grade, you were about 12 - 13 years old, huh? Hormones starting to stir a bit? It appears so from the shape of that lamp base. Either that or you were also into violins. ;D

Either that or you were also into violins. ;D Heh, I doubt I put much thought into the project. And the memory of 1959 is fading a little. ;D You might attach a card on the back telling the story of the lamp for the next generation of your family to own it. I was thinking this when I got up this morning. I will at least write my name and the year it was made on the back and the school. Larry

Interesting with the story behind it. I have a gun rack with a set of 8 point antlers for the gun to rest on above my back door. On the wood base it has winchester 94 routed into the wood. This was made by my uncle in his grade school shop class. The winchester 30 30 I have resting on it was one my grandpa started deer hunting with after WW2 after he bought it off a drunk in the bar. Then my uncle hunted with it for years. Then I did. I recently moved it above the back door that we use the most and everyone asks about the gun or the gun rack. Pretty cool to have these momentos passed on. Sometimes the story behind making them and who did make them is worth more than the quality or value of the piece. Hope someday one of my family members says the same of something I have made.
