Heck, you can buy a tile saw (wet saw, diamond blade) at Harbor Fright for about $60... Thanks Tim I just checked that out. $60.for 4" and $80 for a 7", I already have a 7" diamond blade so the $80 would work for me.

Don't pay for it yet - somebody'll dig through an HF flyer & find you the code for the $60 price.

I've done the floors of two rooms with my HF tile saw ... it's not fancy, but it does the job VERY nicely. I love it when an inexpensive tool exceeds my expectations.

Did you do it yet Fred? May I suggest that you try the 3/4" ply then use 12" granite tile for the top? I've seen that done and it looks absolutely great and the cost is very reasonable. I have thought about that but I'm not familiar with the process. How do I trim out the edges, how to work around the sink, grouting. I would need a tile saw and there is no rental places around here. Not planning to start until after the holidays. I will give it some thought. Fred In my old house, I had a bullnose wood trim that matches the cabinet all around the edge and that looked great.
