Didn't feel real great Friday, so I lazed out and never made it to the woodshop. Consequently I didn't get as much done as I had hoped. Everything but the roof is glued up now. Spent a fair amount of time today getting the wheels to work with the drive bars, it rolls pretty good now and they move smoothly. Back to my brass drift for the 3 "emblems" did it all in my wood lathe. Carved the "74" (no significance to me, was on the picture) and added M&P and WYOMING. Sprayed with black paint and sanded it off leaving in my carved areas. The emblem is 5/8" diameter. without flash above, with flash below. The brass pins on the cow catcher and sides of the boiler are 3/16" drilling the lower ones to accept the 3/32" brass rod was interesting. The inside boiler with the door is just sitting there. I hope to get the dials, pipe, knobs etc... made and installed tomorrow. All this little crap takes me forever. Apparently I miss drilled my holes on the boiler a little bit, right side is higher than the left side, oh well, can't have everything right I guess. What do you think? Thanks ~Mike

Is this a joke Mike? I can't believe how fast you whipped this train out!!!
It's wonderful! You know - I should just copy and paste the same reply to all of your stuff, because - it all turns out well.....well, at least the stuff you share on here!!
Seriously though - do you just work non-stop on things, or do you just work REALLY fast?

I figure I either got slower in my elder years or maybe it just seems that way. All this small stuff, I almost think I could have carved this quicker It's wonderful! Thanks Zac, I pretty much share everything I make, probably more than I should post, but hey, it's sort of a life ;D and thanks for taking the time to reply.Seriously though - do you just work non-stop on things, or do you just work REALLY fast? I work on one project at a time, don't sleep alot. I am the same way in the bodyshop, work on one job till it's finished, wether I have to take a day or two off waiting for parts, I refuse to start another job till the one I'm working on is finished. I think for me it would be to easy to not go back to the other job or projects then I'd have unfinished crap everywhere. Thanks ~MikeJoe wrote: Mike, You're doing a fantastic job on it! Can't believe how long this took me today. After plowing snow this morning got to the woodshop built a fire and started working on this about noon. Wife called me at 8:30 tonight to see if I wanted some supper before she went to bed. I started by slicing some redheart an 1/8" thick, then drew out some "flames" scrollsawed that. Sliced some Boxelder burl that had some red in it, drew out some more flames, cut that on the scrollsaw, glued the two together then carved them and glued them in the boiler. Had a slight gap at the bottom of my flames so I put a little CA glue on the gap and threw some boxelder burl lathe chips in the glue. The boiler gauge took me a while too, turned it in the lathe, decided I could draw a guage in CorelDraw and print it out and laminated it to glue in the recess. Found out that you have to cut stripes of paper the length of the lamination pouch, if you don't the thing wads up inside the machine. Took me half an hour to dig that one out of the laminator. The knobs are 1/16" thick redheart, drilled 1/16 holes in some 3/32" dowels, slid them onto the 1/16" welding rod, drip of CA then glue the knobs on, carve with my turbo carver and my smallest bit. Really thought I'd be done with the train by now, still lack some benches or something else inside, glue the roof on, some trim on the train side and roof, and a roof vent. Probably should have done more on the boiler too, but I think it's enough? Thanks ~Mike

Well even I can see it won't run right. The counterweights on the drivers are too small. It's just gonna shake itself right off the track! Really though, very, VERY cool project. You have great talent sir. Looking forward to the rest of the train (hint ,hint).

Looks like it is holding good pressure on the boiler too....lol. That is really cool, Mike. Thanks for sharing your projects with the rest of us.
