I got my "mandrel saver" tailstock from PSI today and had to try it out. That is such a great idea that I am surprised nobody ever came up with it before. All the pressure is put on the pen blanks being turned and none on the mandrel. I turned this one with both barrels on the mandrel for the first time in a long time, and it worked just fine...even though I know my mandrel is slightly bent. So far, this thing is working pretty well for me, and at only $15.00 it is quite a deal. Here is a link to it: www.pennstateind.com/store/PKMSTS2.htmlAnd here is the pen I made today: And the other side:

I was waiting for someone who has tried it!! Woodturningz didn't have the MT2 so I will be ordering it from PSI when I order my jar of EEE.
Sweet looking pen - I can really see how those are your biggest sellers!

Yeah, I ordered this thing back when we all were discussing it, and it just now gets here! Dang PSI is slow, and Woodturningz is fast,,,but they just don't have everything that PSI offers...almost, but not quite.
So far, I think it really makes sense and worked well for me. A well spent 15 bucks.

Now THAT is a sweet lookin' pen.
I gotta spend more time up here.
Coming to these "turning" threads is kinda like thumbing through a Playboy magazine, for me. I don't understand most of the literature, but I sure like looking at the pictures. ;D

Thanks guys!
Dave, that is a great analogy, because we call these pictures "wood porn" and they both involve hardwood ;D

I can see this topic taking off into demented...... Ya'll need some kind of parental supervision!

Sure isn't anything prettier then a pine cone turned at high speed by you! If that pen doesn't make folks get their wallets/purses opening, nothing will!!

Scott (cool idea though) B Scott, I did not notice that it was out of stock now...I ordered mine right away when we all discussed it and it was available. I guess a lot of turners have the same problem and were willing to try this thing out. Looks like it won't be available until late February...that sucks.
