I think tomorrow after work I may be finally ready to start assembling most of the train, have all the parts made except the boiler stuff inside the cab and everything clearcoated. (well not the tender car or the track). Worked on the boiler for inside the cab some tonight, got the door made. Thought I'd try to cut out some coal or firewood on fire for inside the door, well if/when I figure out how to go about that. Probably some little logs with some redheart and yellow heart flames. Note the vent on the door, it actually can be rotated. The hinge pin is some 1/16" welding rod. I'm planing on using more of the 1/16" welding rod for the "plumbing" figure for gauges I'll have to use some small dowels and spray copper color. For the water/steam valves I thought I'd use small dowels drilled to slip over the "pipe" (welding rod) and glue some thin cutouts of redheart to those to simulate the knobs. It's all quite time consuming or maybe I'm just getting slow. I'm hoping to be done with the train by Monday (have a deer hit coming in Monday). Then I'll just have the tender car, track oh and I decided I may make a passenger car as well. What do you think so far? Thanks ~Mike

Nice detail. I can see that it is a time consuming also kinda addictive. Thanks for posting.

A deer hit - coming in on Monday -- Ohhh I have experience with that!! What a messy job that should be.
How do you concentrate on work - when you have a hobby in the same building. THAT - would be a huge distraction to me.

Very nice. The tiny details are what must be the hardest, but also what make it look as great as it does.
I have an idea about the fire, although yet again, it might be a lot more work than you were after. What about an LED mounted inside the boiler, red in color but not clearly in view to give the reflection of red on the area visible through the boiler door?

THAT - would be a huge distraction to me. Leo, My BodyShop is a seperate building from my woodshop, though I have worked some body jobs in my woodshop (bumper replacements, glass etc... no painting in the woodshop). Woodshop is 28' wide and 50' deep, BodyShop is 40' wide and 28' deep with 2 bays ( 1 bay is my paint booth) and a small office in between the two bays. The above picture I took from the top of Sundance Mountain about 1 mile away. My woodshop is the green metal roof, bodyshop is the gray building with brown shingles, my house is the green shingled roof. The deer hit job isn't to big of a job, replace bumper, brackets, grill, fog light, bumper end. Thanks everyone for the nice remarks. ~Mike
