Sharp looking pen - I really like working with antler - it finishes well once you get it rounded.

thanks zac, I like the antler too. I have tons of it sitting in my shop so I am glad I found a way to get rid of it. It is taking up precious space.

LOL, Antlers do take up a lot of space don't they.
That's a nice looking pen. I really like using Antler too. And you got some nice color in it.
One minor suggestion I would have is to use your skew to do the final turning. I know it is a PITA, but it will help eliminate the little dips and bumps that are probably not noticed by anyone but me. I have found that the skew provides a more uniform diameter on the barrels, especially for antler which has such a combination of soft and hard places. I actually use my 1" skew on edge to smooth out a barrel when needed. Gotta be real careful doing that though to make sure you don't let the toe or heel dig in.
Of course, antler dulls a skew really quickly, so you have to spend more time sharpening than normal. I usually start out turning antler using a roughing gouge, then switch to the skew. I used to really hate my skew, but now it is my favorite turning tool. Like any good relationship, it takes time to fully develop it.

thanks for the tip doug, the uppr barrel near the clip is somewhat smaller some of that was due to the curve of the antler. I had to turn it smaller to get the odd shape out of it. I will try the skew next time. Each time I dare to use I actually get better with it.
