Couldn't locate any ½" or 5/8" brass stock in town, wound up taking my brass drift down to my dad's metal lathe to rough out. Glad I roughed it in dad's metal lathe, I finished in my wood lathe and though it didn't seem to dull the tools that bad it took a lot more time cutting. I sanded with 180, 400, 600, 1000, then 2000, after that I used some rubbing compound then some Imperial hand glaze. The brass pin is some 1/8" brass brazing rod I sanded down, can't hardly tell in the picture but the right side of the rod is slightly thicker than the left and jambs onto the bell. I hammer flattened the right side to fit tight in the right support. It looked really good even with my 3x glasses on, I guess I should have taken a picture before I cut it off the lathe, looks like I needed to sand some of my steps longer. I thought about trying to carve an eagle or something into the bell, considering the scratches I missed I'm kind of glad I decided against spending the extra time. At the rate this project is going, it's going to be a long time before I'm finished. What do you think of it so far? Thanks ~Mike

VERY, repeat, VERY cool mike! Question..... do you own a TV? lol - nah, j/k - I think I've seen a TV in your living room when you redid a brand new couch to install a refrigerator or some crazy thing in it. It does look really good - that walnut (the main part of the engine) is sharp, the pieces on top look pretty sweet too! Zac

Very nicely done. Sorta makes the little toothpick dispenser I made last look kinda lame, LOL.
You have any ideas of putting a working light at the front? Maybe the guts out of a flashlight, with wires running inside or something.
