This is a long weekend for me; I've got Martin Luther King Jr. Day off Monday. I haven't been able to get to the shop in about a month due to holidays, family plans, and work. I have some things planned with my son pretty much all day Saturday, but I'm hoping to get a great big chunk of time in the shop Sunday/Monday. I'll be happy if I can make some substantial progress on my kitchen table project.

No big WW plans for me, have a nice dinner reservation with the LOML, other than that - might spend a little lathe time, try out a CA/BLO finish technique.
Not much else.....

One of the things I've missed since retiring is being off for all of those holidays working for the State. I always thought it was pretty "funny" that we had MLK's birthday off, and also Confederate Hero's Day, which, not being a Federal "Monday" holiday, occasionally fell on the same day as the celebrated MLK B-day.

I am going to begin the design of the shop. Layout of walls, electric, and lighting. Also a layout of where my tools will be.

I have never heard of this day before. But we have Patriot's Day, which you folks most assuredly don't have.

I am actually off the full next week.
I need to make a threshold for a client - should be pretty quick and easy.
I will be working on the model for Michelles dresser, then I just might start building it.
I will be documenting the entire process.

Isn't the Confederate Hero's Day a Texas thang? Or maybe not?

Today both my wife and I had off from school, and my wife had oral surgery scheduled for 8AM. It was a 2 hour procedure and I didn't want to sit around the dentist's office reading year old copies of Oprah magazine. So I left my cell number and drove 2 minutes down the road to the Home Depot.
My wife and in-laws all got me gift cards there for my birthday/Christmas so I had some money and as I was walking around in the tool corral I saw the Ridgid 6" jointer for $301. I know this was normally around $430, and since I was looking at buying it anyway, it made it into the back of my van. I've read a lot of good things about the jointer through various places so I'm really excited to get working with it...going down now to clean the shop - I mean, make a place large enough to assemble the jointer.

Don't you just love it when things like that happen? Money in your jeans (well gift cards) and something you want on sale. ;D
