Okay, got my drill chuck for my tailstock. Problem: How do I remove the spinning piece to insert the drill chuck? I've tried just pulling by hand, but it's not working(moving)..... Here's a photo: Please tell me it comes out so I can put the drill chuck in, and I don't have to buy yet another item to get this working! My set-up for those that don't know is a Jet 1220VS.... Can't you just use your knock out bar to pop the center that is in the tailstock - and then put in the drill chuck? I mean - they are MT right? I'm not sure of the problem I guess.... on my Grizzly - I just pop out the tailstock as easy (or as hard as the case sometimes is) as the head stock - just a good smack with the knock out bar. Sometimes you need to give it a pretty good love pat, though.

If you are trying to get what looks like a center out of that metal piece (the item on the right in the picture) I'd just get some time of bar or rod - insert it in the bottom, and drive it down on the bench a time or two - the center should pop right out of the top - get ready to catch it though!

Scott, just retract the tailstock until the live center "pops" out. Then advance it a little bit before putting the drill chuck it so it does not bottom out.

Yep, do like Doug said, put that piece back in the tail stock, set the jam screw in that slot so it doesn't rotate and then crank the handle to retract the cup center (that spinning piece).
When it won't move any further, another crank on the handle will "pop" it out. That spinning piece has a MT#2 attached to it just like the Jacobs chuck does.
You will need to advance it (turn the handle clockwise three or four turns) or the Jacobs chuck MT will bottom out before it seats.

Thanks everyone!
Guess I was trying to over-complicate the process, when I should have been thinking of the simple solution.

We all do it at some time or another.
Couple days ago I was changing the blade on my miter saw and used a chunck of wood to sink the blade into so I could tighten it. Just like I have to do when changing the blade on my TS.
Then I saw this little button on the side that looked suspiciously like it might lock the blade. Of course it did. Doh! I have had this miter saw for several years and that is the first time I ever noticed that little button.
I guess it would help if I had the patience to actually read the manual ;D

lmao - now that's funny Doug, see - but we're so used to doing it on things like the TS that...well.... we just carry over the motions to things like the MS. Zac
