It's cuz you got th' toolrest against the wall... 'Sides, you can only turn QUILLS on that lathe.

Good catch Tim. I bet that is the problem. Try again with the tool rest repositioned to the front of the lathe Dick Say, isn't that one of those fancy variable speed models? Or do you still have to change the belt? Try tightening up your belt Dickie and see if that helps any. Biscuits and jelly ought to do the trick ;D

I think there must be a wobble in your mandrel, try lissening the tailstock.... Does that dinasaur even have a tail?

Aha,that rear mounted tool rest brings out the amatures,,,,,,,for us more experienced turners we like a massage while we are turning,thus tool rest in the rear as well as the front,,,,,,,,,,smile,but you gotta be tough to take it.
