....and no - not from some magical back rub I got! I use a couple 2x4's with a 2x6 (literally six inches, not the narrower version, actually ripped to 6") set on top of the 2x4's and then screwed down. I have 3/8" bolts holding the legs to the risers. I have one at each end - no shelf or plywood spanning the two risers, this way it'd be easier to clean under. Plus - I didn't see the need considering each set of legs has a 6" wide platform under it. This comes to dang near my elbows - MUCH better I can tell already and I haven't even used it. After I got the risers finished I decided to make a little shelf that would bolt to the bed ways and come off easy for those real long turning projects. It is 3/4" plywood doubled up and screwed together at the corners. I have a 3/8" bole running through the middle of the plywood between the ways and then a scrap piece running perpendicular to the ways, with the washer, lock washer, and nut following the scrap piece. It works well - it hangs off the end of the lathe - so it doesn't take up too much room, plus allowed me to hang wrenches and my knock-out bar through. I'm very happy with it - I just quickly brad nailed some scrap cherry on the top to keep things from rolling off. Thanks guys! This was probably long over due!! Zac

Nice job, Zac!
The non-shelf is good for toe clearance, too!

Looks great Zac! You will not regret it.
I like the little table on the ways too. That is a great idea. I got tired of all the shavings dropping down onto the stuff I store under the ways, so I put a piece of plywood under the ways and all the way back to the wall to catch all the turnings...it sticks out in the front a few inches and I find myself using that little shelf an awful lot of the time for keeping things handy. Your little table is going to do the same thing for you.
