Hey guys - upon some discussion, I've decided that the Chrome bottle stoppers I have been ordering really need to go, and I should look to some SS ones, I don't want someone being unhappy and then not saying anything to me so I can make things right with them.
I will order some SS ones - but I already have some Black T/N on the way.... 10 of them..... am I gambling by keeping them - or should they hold up better than Chrome?
Luckily I think I can still cancel my chrome stopper order with PSI because they were back ordered.

Zac ive been usin the chrome ones for 2 years , sold the lady at work several of them , gave to friends and family , not a complaint yet. So I wouldnt cull the chrome ones yet . I do use the SS on my high end stoppers. Good sellin point and u get more money to help cover the expense of them. My 2 cents Boodrow

My advice would be to let your customers know up front why some stoppers cost more than others. Let them decide if they are willing to pay a premium for the Stainless Steel. They can't complain later if you tell them upfront what the issues are. Some folks are bargain hunters and might like the idea of getting a good deal.

I haven't looked super close yet - are SS stoppers guaranteed from whoever sells them not to pit or corrode? I mean, if I offered the guarantee that they would never pit - and one does - would PSI or whoever back it? Just curious. I may keep both, and just market the SS as a bit higher - I think that way it allows people to choose whether they want to "risk" it or not, and having an option kind of keeps me in the clear.
Thanks dudes! Zac

Hey Boodrow - will those SS Niles stoppers work on the PSI bottle stopper chuck? I think they will, not sure though.

Hey Boodrow - will those SS Niles stoppers work on the PSI bottle stopper chuck? I think they will, not sure though. Zac I am curious about this too, I think when I finish up with the ones I have I am going to switch to the teardrop style for lower end and ruth niles for high end stoppers

Zac the PS mandrel will work to a certain degree , screws on fine , but the base of the SS stoppers are smaller if I remeber correct , so I would go ahead and get one from Ruth , I havent yet , but goin to. Boodrow

TO clarify what I just posted , U cant turn the wood to match the stopper, the PSI mandrel is thicker , so if u want the stopper to be same thickness as the wood where the 2 come together , the PSI will NOT! That dont always matter , its a personal preferance. Boodrow

Boodrow - I know what you are saying. The "base" of the stopper will be larger than the SS stopper if you use the PSI chuck to turn it.
Now, I like the ones Ruth Niles makes - but, I also kind of like the SS ones that PSI offers.... I'm assuming all SS is NOT equal.... PLUS I love the fact that the Niles SS is made in the USA at a family owned Machine Shop.

Zac, you clearly need to start drinking more wine so you can do a control test of the chrome bottle stopper. It would be the only responsible thing for you to do.

Zac one other thing about the Ruth Niles stoppers , If u want to u can order without the o'rings installed if u want to buff um and make um look crome , thats the way I ordered mine , but never got rountoit. Just sold um in the dull SS finish. Im still goin to buff one just to see how good it looks. Boodrow
And u were correct about the psi mandrel prob bein bigger. Boodrow

I have Ruth's stopper mandrel too and the bushing is smaller diameter than the PSI, but so are her stopper bases. Like Boodrow said, it's just a matter of preference anyway...not critical like pen bushings are.
I especially like Ruth's because it has a MT2 taper so you don't need to use a drill chuck with it - it's just easier to set up and work with.
I don't know about the SS guarantee, but you ought to call Ruth anyway...she is a very nice lady.
One thing to watch for, is the depth of the required hole for the stoppers...I have some from CSUSA that require a deeper hole to be drilled in the stopper blank.
