A little known fact.... The first testicular guard "Cup" was used in Hockey in 1874 and the first helmet was used in 1974.It took 100 years for men to realize that the brain is also important.

First helmet was used WELL before 1974...but they weren't in common use in early hockey...the first leather helmets were in use around the time of the testicular cup's acceptance...but they were not mandated as a required part of the uniform until 1979. Still, players with injuries tended to use helmets on a preventative basis long before 1979. Heck, Craig McTavish and Randy Carlyle were playing without helmets up until the late 90's My dad tells me that shin guards were made of newspaper, though, and used by the goalies only...hockey wasn't the sport that it is now, and you wouldn't have seen anyone lying down to stop a shot...the goalies didn't even go on their knees - the butterfly style emerged much later. My dad has numerous dents in his head from playing hockey...it was a different time back then - seatbelts weren't required either!

Helmet should have been first in my opinion. We don't want the little head doin the thinking for the big head.

Helmet should have been first in my opinion. We don't want the little head doin the thinking for the big head. Been that way throughout the millenia. Why change now?
