I was reading someplace and noticed someone said you shouldn't store your files and rasps together. They should be kept seperated from each other. Has anyone ever heard this or am I the only dummy that stores his together? I keep some of mine in a drawer. Does storing them together ruin them?

I store mine in a drawer all together, but I make sure the bit that cuts isn't touching other rasps as it dings 'em up a bit. I've not noticed much of a difference when they do touch on the bench, but it looks more orderly when I pull the drawer out.

They really shouldn't ever be bumped against each other - it dulls 'em prematurely. They're hardened as hard as they can be, and then they're never tempered back for toughness... so they're brittle as crystal. You can whack one against a vise & break it into pieces.
So... when ya look at the teeny scale, every time you touch any two against each other, there's a good chance one or the other will chip a tiny bit. Clash 'em against each other & chipping's guaranteed.
I like to wrap mine with newspaper - each one individually.

I can understand damaging them by banging them around. Guess I never thought about it though. I do keep mine laying on some of that shelf lining material that I use in all the drawers of my tool cabinet. I lay them side by side but have never wrapped them individually. Learn something new everyday. Guess I need to find a new way to store my riffler files also since they are all rolled together in a cloth roll.

That's that fluttery thing that reads "Classified" across the top & has a buncha' little boxes with language like "WINTER'S COMING! RIP-SAW tracked vehicle now available! See it on YouTube! xxx-xxx-xxxx" and "1946 Ford truck, original flathead, chain drive modernized to shaft, lifted 47 inches on aircraft landing gear, Sunday driver xxx-xxx-xxxx" and "Free - unused PowrGlide exercise machine, four years old, just too dang busy, xxx-xxx-xxxx".

Mike For rifflers... a series of narrow slots routed into a piece of plywood would work very well, with about a 1" "highway" crossing all the slots to give your fingers access to 'em. Something very similar would work for flat files, 'cept you don't need the "highway"; they could just stand on edge in their slots. Half-rounds & rounds & rasps want a diff'rent kind of slot altogether, though.

Tim, I need to start reading your newspaper. Sounds like yours has lots more neat stuff in it that our local paper does..... I couldn't even tell you the last time I bought a newspaper. Since our local started coming out online I haven't bought one since. Mike
