Anyone catch the most recent issue? Great article on building a backsaw, including how to make a jig to cut the teeth and instruction on how to set them. I was intersted to see that one can find kits for this. Part of me likes the idea of finding the stuff ones self but kit is good too...for the times when searching and tweeking ain't on the agenda.
Can't wait to find the time myself.

Yes, that was quite an article! It's nice to know that one could do it... and How... ... but, I don't think I'd tackle it right now... ... I don't need the saw! Am happy with what I have. ;D

Sounds like I need to grab me a copy of that. One of my few modern hand saws is a Halfback saw from Wenzloff and Sons that came in kit form. The blade was already cut to shape, toothed and sharpened and had the back installed. Most of the work involved shaping the tote and notching out for the back. I went against Mike's recommendation and had them file 16 point teeth, then ended up refiling it to 8 after I finished it. I got the kit because it was cheaper than a finished saw and because they could ship it to me much sooner than waiting for a finished saw. Anyway, I did a write up with some pictures on my website. The jig to cut the teeth sounds interesting. Guess I'll just need to get the magazine. ;D
