Thanks guys. Nope, had the glass special made. The wood was good to work with and I just used an penetrating epoxy that you brush on and wipe off.

OK - I have seen that sort of thing on like bar tops and clock faces and stuff like that.
Never thought about thinning it.
Must make for a really tough durable finish.
