Question for ya guys.
Annie is here again for a visit (some of you may remember my "Not Mine" thread showing Annie's killer axe over at ww'ing.com), and... she's pretty much decided she wants to build guitars & other stringed instruments for a living.
Here's the question:
Does anybody have a lead on a really decent luthierie school she could go to so she'll get off to a good solid start?
Thanks.

Does location matter? Preferably in the northeast?
A guy I work with builds/restores guitars, and if I can remember to query him, I'll ask what he's heard for schools.

I'm thinking that maybe an apprenticeship might be her best bet. Here's a listing of schools. Might help.

I know that there are a couple of lutherie schools that advertise in Fine Woodworking. If you have a copy laying around you might check them out.

Well lets see if she enrolled in a correspondence course then she could live with you & Re and put your tools to use this hard cold winter. She might even sing to you while you are working on one of those CJ7's

WOW - funny.
I was just listening to a piece on NPR radio about an American born woman that had a passion for violins. She left the US when she was 18 or so and moved to Italy to learn the art of violin making. She had to learn to speak Italian before entering the school. She did, and she did. She is now one of the worlds leading violin makers. One of her violins was played at Obamas inauguration. She has made about 100 violins in her lifetime and can only make about 4 per year. She sells them for something like $11,500 each
I would bet there is info on NPR dot com somewhere.
So I guess the school she went to was pretty good.

Hal Taylor favors guitars. He might be worth contacting.
dale
By the way, didn't Annie with her axe give her mother 40 whacks while she gave her father 41?
