Has anyone buit a wooden trash can holder that tilts the trash can out for access? See link below if you have no clue what i'm talking about. I'm thinking about bulding a few of these for Christamas and don't really feel like desinging it from scratch if I can find plans. Anyone have plans? Seen any plans available for this? I'm not agains buying plans. I bought plans for the last thing I built (dresser) and it went better and faster than anything else I have built. trashcansunlimited.com/pro844085.html

$215 for THAT?!
I haven't...
... but it seems like The New Yankee Workshop had an episode that had one of them in it.
Wouldn't be hard to figure out... From the Front-bottom corner, make draw an arc... from the top Back and from the top Forward.
Determine angle desired when fully opened (tilted)... Then measure the arc distance from the tilted Front to the vertical home (stop). Now extend that distance Back from the top on the drawn arc (back top of waste basket). Connect the dots and make the tilting basket.
That's the way I see it on First thought...

I know it would be easy to figgure out. But with my little one, I don't have spare time. If i can find a plan, It would make it easy and fast.

I've never done a tipout, but I did this rollout one once: I'll be doing another in this house, but with a different door style.

A rollout would be easier as you could just mount it on drawer rollers. The tipout style is a little trickier to get just right, and if the balance is off, it won't stay shut. (Had one here that was a tipout style and about once a day it'd magic itself open. Drawer rollers work a lot better, even though at first I actually used shower door rollers... Use whatcha got.

As a single piece of furniture as pictured in the link, the cabinet would be subject to tipping over to the front with either drawers (especially 2) or a tip out. It would be wise to install to a wall or to cabinets on one or both sides. Buying plans may be a faster way, but you first will be spending money, and will be limited to the trash can size that is figured for that particular plan. Coming up with your own plan can be pretty quick. First decide and buy the trash can you want to use. Then plan a box for it to sit in. Then, that box will attach to a false door, and high enough off the floor of the cabinet so you could use regular euro overlay hinges. In figuring the opening height, set the can with the size box (bottom edge) you designed on a horizontal line. That line represents the height the box will be off the cabinet floor (to allow for hinges). At the top of the can, rotate the door line on a fixed point (bottom front edge of the cabinet) to see where the back of the can creates an arc. Where that arc crosses a line for the back vertical edge of the door would be where it would hit. Allow enough space above that mark for the opening height of the cabinet. Figure the door with the overlay desired.

A Tipout around here would mean trash on the floor, not a good idea in my opinon. Its to easy to let the next user empty it not knowing the previous user overfilled it. dick

Wouldn't there be a Stop or Chain to stop it from tipping all the way over? Oh, the cat is looking for a place to pee... ;D

Wouldn't there be a Stop or Chain to stop it from tipping all the way over? Oh, the cat is looking for a place to pee... ;D It would likely have something to limit how far the thing would tilt forward, but it would be prone to tipping the cabinet over when it was in the open position when it tilts out far enough to slip the can out as weight is shifted outward. I think I'd want to anchor it to the wall like Mike said.

I think I'd design it in such a way that it would be tall & deep enough so that when tilted to expose the main top of the waste area, that there would not be any problem in it wanting to go any further and a simple Stop hanging down from the top/entry would handle it.

There will be no problem keeping the door closed. In fact, it will want to stay closed even when tipped out with weight, as the weight is cantilevered off the backside of the door. It will likely meet its point of balance pretty near when the back top side of the can is clear of the cabinet. It's difficult to overcome the point of balance to keep it from closing too hard. Restraints to keep the door from falling forward would be by using jack chain, or drop lid supports used in entertainment centers.

Hmmm. Good points I hadn't thought of. With a little one arround the tipping problem will definatly be a concideration. I was going to make one fe me too........Things to ponder on my drive home tomorrow.

When it bops closed, think about little (or even larger, but feminine) fingers in there, too. If it's to be a tipper, it really wants a shock damper.

Never thought of little fingers getting pinched...
I guess the drawer pull-out method would be safer & easier or just as easy to use.

One could put springs, etc. on the bottom to make it easier on the blow... but would still hurt... & get black & blue, etc. Yep... drawer pull-out is the best for me... would be easier to remove & replace the trash bag too! ;D ;D
