From the Rocky Mountain Post ~ An end of year press release regarding the new headlight dimmer switch rule issued by the Colorado Department of Motor Vehicles is summarized below. CO-MVC, Section 25.1001.14 proposed
Starting with the 2012 model year all new motor vehicles sold and registered in the State of Colorado with three or more wheels must have a floor mounted headlight dimmer switch. This floor mounted headlight dimmer switch is intended to be operated with the left foot and the switch must be located to the left of the clutch pedal (or where a clutch pedal would be if the vehicle is equipped with an automatic transmission).
Starting with 2015 vehicle registrations, the owner, when renewing the State of Colorado registration for any motor vehicle with three or more wheels, must provide proof from a CO DMV certified automotive repair shop that the vehicle has been retrofitted with a floor mounted headlight dimmer switch as described above. The CO DMV certified automotive repair shop must certify that any other headlight dimmer switch has been rendered non-operational.
Starting with Calendar Year 2017, any motor vehicle with three or more wheels operated upon a public street or highway within the State of Colorado must be equipped with a floor mounted headlight dimmer switch, REGARDLESS OF THE STATE ISSUING THE VEHICLE REGISTRATION.
Statistics have shown that in 85% of all night time fatal single vehicle accidents occurring on two lane mountain roads involved a blond with a foot wedged between the turn signal lever / headlight dimmer switch and steering wheel.
