This is the 2nd ive made for the lady in pa. The miter keys are walnut. Kinda screwed up the first time around because of a jig fault. Boodrow

I really like that design too Boodrow. The keys look great. Did you do the cove on your table saw?
Was this the one who was going to finish it herself?

Thanks yall ! And I also like the walnut miter keys , I think it really sets it off , my only concern is they are goin to stain it , dont know what the keys will look like then , they would have to be darker than the pine.
Doug I did cut the cove on my crapsman table saw. Its a contractor saw with 1 or 11/2 horse motor , Have to take small cuts per pass. This is the 2nd one and I plained this one to 5/8 thickness fore I cut the coves , and the cove is 3/8 so in the center its gettin pretty thin. I also plained the stock for the lower part of the lid to 5/8 and made the width of it smaller so I could make a bigger insert for the top. These things are kinda fun to make , takes lots o figurin , cuttin , routin , cussin and drankin. Boodrow

One word of advise , since ur cuttin the cove on the blind side of the saw , be sure to mark one side of the board on the side that faces up that either goes against ur clamped fence or goes away from it , u will have to lift the board up and start measurin the depth of the cut at some time and u can turn the board ass backards and screw it up , trust me I know. Boodrow - nice looking box, first thing I noticed was the large cove and wondered if you had done it on your TS - looks like I was correct! Nice job!
The keys look great, contrasting walnut ALWAYS looks good IMO.

Great job, Boo! Good of you to put the can of semi-adult beverage in the first couple pics so as to give us something of a reference to the size of the box. ;D
I find that I can avoid the confusion of marking the individual pieces by holding off on cutting coves or some other decorative cuts until the carcass of the box is assembled. Then you just orient either the top or bottom against the fence for all of the cuts. Also gives you more to hang on to while making the cuts.

I like that box and the first one too, they have nice proportions and details... but that empty beer can some duct tape would serve just as well to hold a cat's ash.

Thanks Yall for the comments , Duster I had thought about doin that makin the carcass then cuttin the cove , I just figured it would be easier to sand with one long pice of board. Now that I think about it , not goin to make a bit o diff , and would be easier to glue up without the cove. Thanks for the tip I will do the next one that way. Dc the can o beer wasnt empty yet. ;D But I know what ur sayin , these are mighty good folks im doin this for. I guess we all spend money on somethin that others thinks is foolish , my wife thinks its foolish to spend what I do on wood workin stuff , hehehehe. Anyway thanks again for the comments and the tips fellers. Boodrow

great job on this one too. I think the walnut keys really set this box off. It is a shame they are going to stain the pine.

I like this one better than the prototype you had when I was at your shop. The walnut keys are nice, but I also think the proportion of the top is better on this one. While the walnut should remain darker than the pine when they finish it, I'd seriously try to talk them into just clear coating it. Some clear lacquer would set that thing off.

Thanks Stretch , I agree with u that the protype wasnt in porpotion near like this one. The folks im sendin i ;Dt to are in PA. Said everything they have is cherry so thats the reason to stain it. Im just glad its them and not me. I hate smellin that stinkin chit. Boodrow
