I can't bite on cherry - but the grain DOES look like it ... I'll put $$ on Alder - because it looks really close to cherry sometimes. I can't fathom any walnut that looks like this. Nor oak. Not even close, in my opinion. Yep. I bet Alder. It's a common pallet wood, it's semi cheap in some parts of the country, it's not super dense or heavy but sturdy. Alder

Good guess! I'll cast my vote along with yours as a rider, Jason. Alder seems more like what we're looking at than anything that came up in my own mind.

Well, not to change my vote, based on others's vote - but.... something like Alder does sound right.... Cherry was my vote, but I couldn't agree with the cost vs. what it was used for, REGARDLESS of the geographical region.... so - Alder sounds like a pretty sound guess.
Any chance we can get the REAL story behind thewood?
