I got a couple chunks of Cypress... I need to figure out how to get it smooth before I turn another chunk... it sorta turns like construction lumber....

That's a pretty bowl although Cypress isn't high on my list of turning woods. It's very prone to tearout and so light that it feels unnatural when finished...sorta like willow in that regard. It appears that I need to send another blank your way.

Good thing you weren't wanting to ID that wood. That looks nearly identical to some spalted hackberry I used.
I've thrown in some cypress in a couple segmented turnings I've made, and it cuts well enough as long as you're working along the grain instead of across it.
