I'm still doing it the hard way with CA. One of these days I'll get a round tuit and see if I can stabilize them with a pressure pot.

Doug another great lookin pen! My 2 acres are covered with pine trees and I guess I just never noticed the unopened ones layin around. Does this happen seasonal or year round? Ive gotta make some pen and stopper out o pine cone. Boodrow

The only ones that I have found that do this are local ones called "Afghan Pines" Boodrow. There was a farm that put in a whole plantation of them here a couple of decades ago and so there are a lot of them that have been planted locally here over the years. It is one Pine tree that actually does well in our climate here.
I don't know if any others would work or not, but you might try those you have there. Let me know if you find some that work. People are asking me all the time about what Pine cones will work.
