Hey guys - the first two pens are for a couple who have gotten me a discount on materials a couple times. The third pen is for my mom - it's the Euro style you guys were helping me with!! The first is Cocobolo, slim style platinum. The second is Blood Wood, slim style platinum. The first is Zebra Wood, slim style platinum. All are finished with Crystal HUT friction polish and buffed/waxed. Thanks!! Zac

Thanks guys - Dick - I think it was you who posted about aspiring turners stopping at pens.... I think that is probably true. Pens are fun, a lot of fun. Don't worry though, I very much look forward to bowls and the like, but I want to do it safely, and when I am more comfortable working with the lathe and it's tools.
Hopefully I can find a turners club.
Thanks!
Zac

That's OK Zac,,,if you can make pens like that, you don't have to be able to count Nice job on the Euro! It took me quite a while before I ventured away from the slimline...you are miles ahead of where I was when I first got lathed ;D Now quit messing around with those plain slims and order some "fancy" slims from Woodturnings - you will like them better, I promise, and they cost the same. Much nicer center band and clip and they come in all kinds of platings for $2.00 each or less.

Thanks Doug! I'll order from woodturnings soon - man - their stuff is quite a bit cheaper than Woodcrafts!!
Question - would you buy a set of bushings for their slim line kits just to be sure they fit as they should? For $3 - it's not really a big deal.....but it would be a major deal if you start turning and the parts doing go together right!

No, you won't need new bushings from Woodturningz. They are cheaper, but the same as from elsewhere. But, you can never have too many slim bushings...they are the universal spacers for anything you can put on a 7mm mandrel.
I have lots of slim bushings because they are cheap, and when you sand them down a little too much, you just get a new set for $3.00 and the old ones get used as spacers. They are aluminum, and they will get sanded down and need replaced every so often. I have made hundreds of slims, so I have lots of spacers now ;D
