Dang if this is not just the most perfect segmented pen I've ever made. Mostly just dumb luck, but I still cannot believe how perfectly matched the two barrels came out.
This was an idea I've had bouncing around in my head for quite a while, and today it finally turned into reality. The wood is from a piece of Spalted Pecan that was supposed to be a bottle stopper (and still will be some day). But it was a little longer than it needed to be and I hated to waste that gorgeous wood so I cut a slice of it off the end to use for making a pen with.
Bloodwood is the accent and diagonal wood. Another new feature is that I used wood veneer instead of pick guard for the first time. And, let me tell you that is a huge improvement. Pick guard is plastic and so has different characteristics than real wood. The dyed wood veneer I recently bought is natural wood and I like using it a lot. This is where I got it from www.woodturnerscatalog.com/store/Segmented_Turning___Kits___Veneer_Pack___veneer_kits?Args=
It aint cheap, but it is another worthwhile purchase in my opinion. I had to double the thickness of each color to get the look I wanted, but that is very easy to do.
Thanks again to Scott and Emerson for the wood! I have to admit that I had to sand this one to final dimensions because even a sharp skew was giving me chip outs...but the effort was really worth it. Maybe the best pen I've ever made...
Anyway, enough blathering, here are the pics.

And finally one last angle.
