I posted this by mistake on the turning bench. My bad. I will repost here. I have practiced making round things out of square blocks. Now it is time to make something. This is my first pen attempt. Gold traditional twist kit, Bubinga blank and Hut Crystal Coat finish. Drilled the blank on dp and squared on disc/belt sander. I can see where I should have taken the blank down a little more at the center ring. Definately not on a par with others I see here, but I don't think to bad for the first.

Didn't even notice it was in the wrong section....oops mods. I posted there too!
You did pretty good. The bubinga has some open grain, and I didn't notice any 'white spots' in your finish. And the wood compliments the Fancy Gold Slimline.
Scott (well done....order more kits!) B

Way to go Brian! Looks alot better than my first one! Mine cracked all to crap on the ends when I pressed it in because I didn't make sure to clean all the burs out of the inside before I pressed it. Those are just the little things you learn as you go! It looks good for a first if you ask me! Practice makes perfect, and we're all still just practicing!

Brian, I think it turned out wonderful for your first one. Be sure and save this one as it will always be special and you can also compare it to your later versions as you gain experience.

As I said on the other posting, wife has already pointed out a boo boo on the pen.
