I was down to my last MJ splitter. I thought that I had ordered a couple a few weeks ago but since they didn't come, I figured I was thinking about it but never actually ordered them.
Well, today while looking in a tool box that Boodrow gave me, I found the two brand new MJ splitters! For the life of me, I don't remember getting them and putting them in that box.
I've also been missing my favorite tape measure for a week now...a 16' Stanley. I've got a couple other different tapes but that one was my favorite one. I had just about resigned myself to buying another one.
About an hour ago, Karen came home from town with some groceries in the trunk of her car. I was helping her carry them in when lo and behold, what did I spy in the trunk but my 16' tape measure.
She says she has no idea how it got back there and said I must have left it there. Since I didn't remember getting those MJ splitters and stowing them in the tool box, I really couldn't accuse her of "borrowing" my tape.
Y'all reckon this is senility, oldtimer's, alzheimer's or just the dumbazz?
I haven't gotten lost yet when coming back home so that's a plus.

It's gremlins that's what it is, my shop is ate up with em. Hide stuff, leave it lay out in the yard or some place worse. They even left my flashlight under the seat of the car, what they had it in there for I'll never know. I think I will try garlic.

Well I don't know what to call it, but I have bought hard to find old hand planes that I had wanted for a long time only to discover another one sitting in the to-be-refurbed pile at home. It's as simple as this Cody; the more irons you have in the fire, the easier it is to forget one.

Rich beat me to it... This evening I got ready to hang the new over-vanity light fixture in the downstairs bathroom. Whingo, no swively mounting plate. Searched the entire house over, searched half the shop over, no swively mounting plate. It's SOMEPLACE... Someplace very GOOD, someplace very SENSIBLE, I'm sure. I just have no clue where that is. Made another mounting plate, much sturdier than the original (still ain't enough to keep the light from drooping a little)... but that's another story. In the course of that massive search (which, for this house, really is significant), I found two armloads of tools & other neat stuff in very GOOD, very SENSIBLE places out of reach of my memory. Even two round-nose .38 Specials in a coffee can.

Sounds like you were lucky and found the splitters before you ordered more. Generally doesn't work that way for me. I find them five minutes after hitting the send button for the order.

Me, myself, and I could never be held responsible for misplacing a tool. The worst thing for me is pencils. Those Gremlins must feed on lead. I betcha I have been through ten on this canoe build.

I lost my Lee Valley saddle square and could not find it anywhere. I finally ordered another and about a week after I got the new one I found the old one

I must have more than 20 pencils throughout my house and never one within reach when I really need it. It really is amazing how many pencils I have and how well they can hide from me.

I'm chiming in with a true story:
Man went to the Doc to say he was losing his memory. Doc said to get some rest. Few months later, man continued to complain. Doc wouldn't listen. Finally, man told Doc his condition was serious! He had just found his wallet in the freezer!
This sort of thing happens when guys put things in a "safe" place so they won't forget. ;D
I'm bad at misplacing my lighters.

Cheesh
I could have sworn I had responded to this already.
Did somebody delete my post?
Cody - yes you are getting old.
I already have 2-3 16 Stanley tape measures.
I cannot tell you how many pencils I have - cause I put it down - never to see it again.
I order stuff and when it comes in - I don't remember ordering it --- sort of like someone sending me stuff all the time. Nice.
