I need to drill some holes for a grab rail into the shower wall. The wall is cultured marble, and I don't know that a regular twist bit will work. Anyone know what the recommended bit is for this stuff?

Masonry bit lubed with water from a spray bottle will do the trick. Go slow, with light pressure (NOT in hammer-drill mode if you have that), and rough the center spot with the tip of the bit before starting so it doesn't walk around on you.

You'll be surprised just how SOFT that stuff is, if it's the stuff I'm thinkin' about. It'll drill right easy. I started to turn a pen from the stuff once, but it crumbled... Yeah, it was tough on HSS tooling, too.

Masonary bit?
I'll second the lube with water also. (More to keep it cool.)

mix a little soap with the water. Dawn is perfect. After ya get through the marble, go to a twist. Masonry bits like crete, etc. but not very good in wood.

Might wait till he gets through the cement board, if there's some there, though...

Cultered marble (resin composite) can be drilled with ordinary drill bits. Brad points work well. Lubricate with water.
