At the base, (bottom pic) how do you do the transition from square to round on the lathe without getting tear out in the form of those little strings on the following side (on the exiting side of the cut)? I'm thinking an uber-sharp tool, and a very light touch. I first laid out the portion that would remain square and then I used a trick I've seen Norm use...I took a hand saw and made a cut about 1/2" deep at each corner on both ends of the square piece. That allowed me to round the rest of the pedestal without worrying about tearing off a corner of the square area. When I got ready to make the pommel cuts, I used the evil skew chisel, sharpened on the Wolverine jig and honed on the Jet wet sharpener and leather wheel. Thanks everyone for the kind comments.

Boodrow said, "Like my dad used to say it was larfin!"

I am wondering if Boodrow meant larapin. My dad used to say that all the time. He would order a steak the size of a mule's lip from his ear down and then when he was full he would say it was larapin good....lol
Great job on the table, Cody. One of these days I need to get brave enough to try some furniture pieces. When I do I know where to come for advice.

Cody, I really like it too and I'm glad you were asked how you attached the top. I have continued problems with a nice, round table and have no way of fixing the creeks. Our cat Tuft has become an expert at waking us up at night by walking onto it. We think he does it on purpose so we play with him! Great job! And I love the wood!
