Did a little here and there yesterday... The back was so-so, and progressed to pretty eck as the day went on. But I pushed through it as the last pen I was doing was coming out so well(even though, at times, I thought the thing was going to win)-last photo in this topic! Started out with something simple, just to make sure it was going to be a 'good turning day'. Slimline Antique with Tulipwood: Then I moved on to this. 308 Cartridge with Black Cherry: Then for the final one of the day... I have been putting off turning this, I don't know why but I think it was to be sure I had enough confidence to use the skew to it's fullest. Now I noticed a few things that would have made this easier... A bandsaw! Took forever to get this down to the size that was needed....thought it was going to win! Popped a few seeds out, and had to repair with dust/CA, not sure I could ever keep all those seeds in..... 308 Cartridge with Afghan Pine Cone <<<<<Special Thanks to DougB for the 'cone'>>>>>As always, comments/critiques are most welcome!! And thanks for looking!!!!! Scott (popping seeds right out) B

Les Got the cone from DougB, seems he has them just laying around in his state of N.Mexico? I know if I had a bandsaw to get the 'roughed out first', I'd be turning them by the truckload!!! Thanks for the kind words Les, means a lot coming from you and the standards that you make me want to aspire too!!! Scott (I'm still not in the same room as Les) B

pens look great scott. I would turn em (pine cones)by the truckload too if there were any to be had. The cones around here are useless. I found a few trees around here and even tried to turn a few. but no luck. Wish doug wanted to do some trading or selling of some cones.....

The nice thing about pens made from cones is when you get that "flame' look. That is fantastic Scott! I love it. They are a pain to do, but well worth the effort.
Mav, I'll send you some to try. They are a PITA and messy, but nothing else looks like them.

They all look great. I'm partial to the black cherry one, myself. Love that natural look.

Nice pens.
Is there any difference between tulipwood and tulip poplar?
