Zac ,a word of caution just in case you may have missed reading it in the manual........

Never change the speed setting wheel position unless the lathe is running it will break belts or jam.

I learned the hard way and really had a hard time finding a replacement and its a chore to change out.

It can be done while you rotate the lathe by hand, but you have to move the setting SLOWLY so your hand-turning can keep up with it. Don't ever do it (especially shifting to a higher speed) with the lathe sitting still.
