Me three. I am mesmerized by your talent. Incredible to say the least. Did you do a gargoyle a ways back and post it on the old site. I was mesmerized by that as much.

This seems like it's taking me forever, still a long way to go: Then I will be ready to start carving the other section (when I stack cut two of these) for the legs, feet, saddle etc... that would be the front. Though I am quite a few hours from that yet. Thanks ~Mike

Mike, it is looking great so far. I can appreciate the time it takes. I might have to tackle something like this someday. Still trying to figure out just what you mean by stack cutting. Are you going to show the opposite side of the arena with the figures looking back at you?

Are you going to show the opposite side of the arena with the figures looking back at you? Kind of a long story, my thought was to also try to make a little money by scanning these carvings with my carvewright to sell the patterns. The machine can only carve to a depth of ¾" so my thought was to carve the cowboys on the fence in two sections ¾" each, this is the front (the back of the cowboys will face upward) the other side would be the back (the front of the cowboys will face down towards another carving of a rodeo scene). At this point the way I have carved this the only thing on the other side of the fence will probably just be some fingers, legs, feet and the other half of the saddle. (not exactly what I had in mind when I started, thought each ¾" section would be half the carving evenly). If it hadn't been for the thought of scanning this I probably would have just carved it out of a solid piece of 1¼" or 1½" thick material. Seems there are always ways to make this stuff harder for me to do. Full 3D carving has always been more difficult for me than "relief" carving. I think I'm pretty good at the relief part but trying to then make that relief wrap around to full 3D is harder for me to get the proportions correct so it looks right from any angle. Again except for the scanning to get a pattern I'm not really sure I'd need the "front" (legs side) of the carving to be all that perfect as it will be facing down on top of another carving inside a glass top table. Thanks ~Mike

Most cowboys have a can of Copenhagen in their back pocket. By golly, Fred, you are right. I knew there was something missing. At least one of those guys needs a round ring in his back pocket. ;D
