I had heard about this one time and thought I'd give it a whirl. It started out as a piece of 3/4" plywood. I layed out an Archimedes Spiral on the plywood and cut it with a band saw,,,oops 1st mistake was not tilting the band saw table,it opened up like a tapered coil spring but the kerf gap made it hard to deal with.I cussed a little and did another this time tilting the table.I expanded the coils by eye and hand and tacked it all together with CA and then nearly had to saturate it with CA to keep the plys from separating, you can see some chip out in the pics. If I remember correctly the gaps on the spiral were 1/2" The bowl walls ended up right at 1/16th inch because I had the tilt to far one way or the other ,can't remember which, and to get it in a bind to glue it I had to expand the spiral to far making the walls to thin.I was afraid it would blow apart any minute thats why the finish is so rough.I was afraid to do much more with it.......11"diameter It was a fun project, give it a try one of these cold winter nights. dick

WOW, dick! That looks awesome! I've wondered how something like that would look, etc. Thank you doing it! I've also wondered about glueing up scrap pieces to make edge-cut panel slabs... then resawing to make things from... even as veneer... someday, I will try it a little more... Stumbled on the Bookends (posted). Yep, I think I'd be scared as all get out turning that on a lathe!

That is an interesting turning...well done, too.
I'll bet that plywood and associated glue played havoc with your gouge edge, too. Did you have to sharpen frequently?

Very interesting, and not the kind of plywood bowl I was thinking of.
Thanks for sharing that.
