What plating would you use for this Sierra Guinea Fowl Feather pen blank? Which end of the blank would you place at the nib end so that the quill end of the feathers are pointing towards the nib? Les

I'm no expert... I think I'd use Silver... (better contrast to the black) I would put the writing end at the bottom of the top picture. ... (seems like there is more yellow flowing in that direction.)

Les, When I have a blank that I'm not sure about what plating would go best with, I will hold the pen parts from different platings up next to a blank to determine which one looks best. Then I ask my wife for the correct selection. That one would probably go real well with a black chrome plating but I bet the Sierra does not come in that plating. Black Ti usually goes with just about anything, so that is one I would check with it. It's hard to tell, but maybe, just maybe the yellow would make it go well with a gold plating. Orienting the pen, I would put the feathers to where the quill end would be on the nib end of the completed pen. That is the way the old quill pens were used so that would seem natural to orient the feathers the same way. I'm just having trouble determining which direction the feathers are oriented on the blank
