So I don't know or get all the jumping to the new board. But i am not too worried about it either. See lots of people jumped over here and well I figure why not be in both places. Looking forward to seeing everyone's work over here too. Also maybe seeing some new people's pieces on this board.

I have been working quite a bit in the garage lately and have some half finished stuff I will post when I am done. A blanket box and a pen holder are the things I can remember than I am halfway through. I grew up in northern minnesota and like a rustic look to things and incorporating natural edges of pine and birch in my pieces. That is the style up there and what I am into. Look forward to BSing with everyone.

Thanks everyone. Hey Joe never noticed before that that was sam Maloof in your picture. How long did you get to talk to him? Or was it just a quick meeting thing? Just wondered what you thought of him. Always seemed like an interesting guy.

Yes the pic is a little clearer now, I can see it is Sam Maloof. Before I always thought it was Ray Charles.

It seemed like a long time... He showed us all of his shop & equipment, demo'd his band saw & autographed his test piece for a gal in the group, toured wood sheds spread all over the property... talked about just about everything!

I'm going to guess 3+ hours...

One thing I remember that surprised me... Some of us were sitting out in the large patio (where picture was taken) shooting the BULL and I noticed some slight scars on his hand(s)... and I just asked him...
"Can you give us any tips on what not to do to avoid injury?"

He said "I'm not sure what you mean."

I told him about noticing scars on his hands...

He looked at his hands, and it was like that scene in the movie Jaws ;D ;D ;D , he proceeded to point to each scar he had and tell us about each one on HOW STUPID he was when he got them... The worst one happening on his Jointer... where the small piece he was working on (mistake) Flipped by the blades taking his hand right into the blades.

I will never forget him... He was truly a GREAT person as well as a super craftsman!

Interesting joe. I can imagine his hands would be tore up. I have seen him demo his methods and he somewhat appoligetically talks about how he doesn't use guards. He was saying that when he started and learned how to do his chairs they didn't use guards and that is just how he has to do it. Yeah he struck me as a realy good man who managed to stay modest and loved his wife passionately.
