Was wondering today, during the rain, if it was possible to use toothpaste as a polishing agent?

Actually, I think of heard of folks using toothpaste, especially the whitening kind with abrasives in it to polish a finish. The grit of the abrasive may be a little course for a high gloss, but you could give it a shot and find out.

Sure can! Though, to what success is uncertain. I'm officially granting you permission to: 1) Experiment with various brands and kinds of toothpaste. 2) Test various finishes upon which you apply the paste. 3) Take before and after photos of each test piece And of course ... Post the results of your findings here! That's it - you've got yer orders, now (Okay, just try it and tell us what you think, at least )

It's an excellent 'polish' too! I've been using white toothpaste (none of the fancy colored stuff) to keep the residues off my electric guitar since I can easily control how it 'flows' into the little crevices where it doesn't need to. Wipe it off with a damp cloth, followed by a dry cloth.
I don't like to leave it on long as I'm not really in love with the smell, but a gentle rubbing on stubborn spots usually works well too.

My neighbor, who does window tinting, once told me that toothpaste works well to clean the outside of windows - cars and homes both. I have not tried it yet, but this reminds me that I need to try it. I'm anxious to hear how the results turn out

I'm sure it would work but why? You can get proven polishing agents for probably less money than toothpaste...in comparable quantities...with no guessing involved.
Not trying to be a wet blanket but I don't see the point in using toothpaste.

Zact (no relation to our own member) tooth polish contains zircon crystals, which work very well to polish extremely hard stuff like glass, even. I'll tell ya, though... it takes a world of scrubbing to knock all the sandblasting off the windshield of a '65 VW bug when ya live in New Mexico...
