Man, you just opened up a HUGE can-o'-worms. You'e gonna have lots of fun with that lathe but you will also be broke.
Did you ever see Sonny's iceberg picture? That lathe is just the tip. ;D
Congratulations, Zac.

Congrats on the purchase, that will keep you up nights
Is the standard tool rest extension for outboard turning standard with the order or is it an adder.
I found in the past that outboard turning was more comfortable but felt like the machine was a little less stable with the load in front but that may have been my old stamped metal legs/
Have fun,lts see need pics by Saturday week.

I think that the tool rest and extension shown in the picture of the outboard set up - is the same as the regular set up, so I think that is all included. I didn't order any extra except for some chisels and a live center. I already ordered the slow speed grinder and wolverine jig from Woodcraft.
I got word - it should be in Monday, not sure if I'll have it set up Monday night - if not, for sure Tuesday evening - and pictures to follow!!!!

I'm pretty sure all these green lathes come with the extension in the box. Note to Zac - it took me a while to figure out that I didn't HAVE to use that extension - the rest fits in the banjo, too, and it's a lot more stable there. The extension reaches out a long way for when you need it, though - like with the headstock turned 30 degrees out where you can work on a bowl right in front of you.
BTW... measure your banjo? I wanna' know if it's longer'n mine. If it is, I may order one for yours so I'll have a longer one.

I sure will Tim - remind me if I don't post when it comes in. Just to be clear (sorry, total noob here) the banjo is what the tool rest goes into, normally - unless you are using the extension...then it's: tool connected to the extension - sitting in the banjo....... right? (the hokey pokey is playing in my head now!) Zac

Yep, the banjo is the blocky thing that clamps down to the ways, between the headstock & the tailstock, and has a (about 1" diameter) hole in it that accomodates either a toolrest or a toolrest extension. Thanks.

THAT is a COOL looking lathe! You're going to have some real FUN with that! Now, you can spend lots of $$$ for all the special tools, etc. you will really NEED... ;D ;D That's really NICE... and FREE SHIPPING! Good deal! Looks like they have the G0555 on Sale too but NO free shipping... That's the Sale I took advantage of a few years ago. Love it! Thank you.

Tim I got the same lathe that Zac has ordered. The banjo is 9" I really don't think it is a very good design. The way the 1" hole for the toolrest and the bolt that tightens the lock on the tool rest limits the length of the toolrest post. The amount that you can raise and lower the toolrest is limited. That is probably as clear as mud. Fred

Clear like good water at this end, Fred. Sounds like the banjos are the same casting... and I know what ya mean about the design - the toolrest post can't be too long or it'll just stand on the banjo's eccentric tightener rod thingamajig & stand too tall. I think they decided to put it smack in the middle so it could be used both inboard & outboard without juggling something else around; the ones with the post hole on the headstock side would be useless for outboard turning.
